Lynn Black, MD, MPH is an Attending Physician in Massachusetts General Hospital’s Department of Medicine and an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is an Associate member of the Division of Global Psychiatry.
Dr. Black currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the International Medical and Surgical Response Team for the National Disaster Medical System. She is also an asylum evaluator for Physicians for Human Rights.

Dr. Black’s work is focused on issues of gender-based violence, refugee health, disaster response, healthcare delivery for resource-poor areas and marginalized populations, and maternal mortality. Her international experience includes clinical delivery and leadership positions with emergency response teams, academic institutions, government programs, U.S. Federal government agencies, and non-governmental human rights organizations.
Dr. Black’s disaster response work has included the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak in Liberia, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and the 2003 Super Typhoon in Micronesia. She has also been involved in projects to address sexual violence in conflict-affected areas, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chad. In addition, she is recognized for her work on the ethical issues involved in disaster response along with resiliency of responders and survivors.
Dr. Black is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and has extensive clinical experience in both internal medicine and emergency medicine. She received her Master’s degree in Public Health Policy and medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her residency was in Internal Medicine at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
