Lamis Solaim, PhD, CPsychol, AFBPsS is principal investigator with the Chester M. Pierce, MD Division of Global Psychiatry. She is a Child and Adolescent Psychologist.
Dr. Solaim works to address the need for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the Middle East. Dr. Solaim hopes to address the need for a comprehensive multi-level system of mental healthcare in the Middle East through capacity building and research efforts, collaborating with experts in the field to propose and implement new interventions.
During her fellowship at Global Psychiatry, Dr. Solaim developed a proposal and secured funding for creating a post graduate diploma in child mental health. The program will be in collaboration with the MGH Psychiatry Academy and hosted by Alfaisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Solaim hopes that after piloting this program it will serve as a prototype for training child mental health workers in the Middle East and other developing countries.

Dr. Solaim received her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saudi Arabia’s King Saud University, an M.A. in applied child development at Tufts University, and a Ph.D. in psychology from the United Kingdom’s Royal Holloway University of London. Her doctoral dissertation was published in a major scientific journal due to its pioneering observations on religious manifestations of obsessive-compulsive disorder in young Saudi women. She has since presented many of her findings at international psychology conferences and has received recognition for her expertise in child clinical psychology.
