Psychiatric Care and Rehabilitation Center in Dang District
The center, established in Dang district of Nepal under the leadership of Dr. Shreedhar Paudel, is providing basic physiological needs, primary health care, psychiatric care, and psychosocial rehabilitation services to people with serious mental health conditions who have been living on the streets or are being restrained inside their family’s homes. The center has a capacity of 12 patients and provides residential services under the leadership of a general physician with remote supervision and monitoring by a psychiatrist.
Integrated Mental Health Centers in Dang and Chitwan Districts
Dr. Shreedhar Paudel and colleagues established the first specialized mental health care services in Dang, Nepal in 2017. Nepal has mental health service gap of 85-90% and until 2017, Dang district had no specialized mental health care. Two Integrated Mental Health Centers, one each in Dang and Chitwan districts, have been established providing individual and community-based outpatient services. The centers provide high quality mental health care through community mental health workers, psychosocial counselors, and primary healthcare providers under remote supervision and monitoring of volunteer psychiatrists and psychologists.
