Title: Dr. Lauren Ng speaks about "Trauma and Healing in Post-Genocide Rwanda"
Dr. Lauren C. Ng, a postdoctoral fellow in the Global Psychiatric Clinical Research Training Program, gave her first Grand Rounds presentation at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center today.
Dr. Ng’s presentation, "Trauma and Healing in Post-Genocide Rwanda," focused on her recent work with survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. She described two studies conducted in collaboration with two community-based survivor organizations, Solace Ministries and the Association of Orphaned Heads of Household (AOCM). These studies identified sources and mechanisms of healing, such as community and social support, religiosity and connection to God, and sharing of genocide experiences, and examined survivors’ perceptions of the effectiveness of these strategies.
Dr. Ng’s current work focuses on severe mental illness in Ethiopia.
