As of September, Somaliland has its first psychiatrist working in country. With support from a philanthropic donor, the MGH Division of Global Psychiatry and Hargeisa Neurology Hospital have been able to fund the salary of the country’s only psychiatrist. In the past two months, Dr. Jayamaaduri Mothukuri, an Indian native, has started to provide direct outpatient and inpatient psychiatric services through comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, counseling, and psychopharmacological treatment of patients. She has also been actively involved in the development of various psychiatric training programs at the University of Hargeisa.
