Title: Jessica Magidson Awarded Partners Population Health Management Grant
Dr. Jessica Magidson, an Associate Member of the Global Division and former T32 fellow, has been awarded a Partners Population Health Management Delivery System Innovation Pilot grant in collaboration with the MGH Substance Use Disorders (SUDS) initiative.
With Dr. Sarah Wakeman (co-PI) and other co-investigators from the SUDS initiative, the grant will evaluate the clinical-effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of integrating peer recovery coaches into primary care, in an effort to improve substance use treatment outcomes and reduce health care costs among patients with substance use disorders. The project is a one-year pilot grant ($50,000), which is intended to promote future larger scale research in this area.
Dr. Magidson's current work evaluating the use of lay counselors for delivering substance use and adherence interventions in South Africa has informed and contributed to her interest in examining the role of recovery coaches in primary care in the US.
