Title: Dr. Henderson Appointed Chair of Psychiatry at BU School of Medicine
Dr. David C. Henderson, the Director of the MGH Division of Global Psychiatry and the Schizophrenia Clinical and Research Program, has recently been named the next Chair of Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine and Chief of Psychiatry at Boston Medical Center.
After more than 26 years at MGH, Dr. Henderson will be taking up his new posting at Boston University in mid-November. Dr. Henderson started his career at MGH as a resident in 1989. In addition to his two Directorships, he is also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His main areas of research have been psychopharmacological and antipsychotic agents in the treatment of schizophrenia, impacts of antipsychotic agents on metabolic anomalies and glucose metabolism, and ethnic and cultural psychiatry. Dr. Henderson has also worked in and with collaborators from more than two dozen countries ranging from Ethiopia to Peru during his time at MGH.
Dr. Henderson will continue to be involved the Division of Global Psychiatry collaborations and will continue to be an investigator on many of our studies going forward. Dr. Gregory Fricchione, the original co-founder of the Global Division, will re-take the lead as Director of the Chester M. Pierce, MD Division of Global Psychiatry in November.
