Description: Leontien (Lex) van der Stok is a second year student at the Vrije University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, pursuing a master’s degree in Global Health Research. Lex holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and has worked for many years as a nurse in several countries including the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, and Uganda. She has a strong interest in women’s health and gender differences in health, specifically mental health. During her first master internship at a Dutch NGO, she evaluated a sexual and reproductive health and rights education program in teacher trainings colleges in Malawi. Currently she is an intern at the Chester M. Pierce, MD Division of Global Psychiatry at MGH where she is focusing on gender differences in access to mental health in a cohort of African Immigrants in MA. She is scheduled to graduate from her master’s program in September 2015.
