Event Title: Dr. Maria Elena Medina Mora, "Early Life Exposure to Violence and Mental Health Outcome"

Description: Dr. Medina Mora has served as Director-General of the National Institute on Psychiatry (Mexico) a World Health Collaboration Center Since 1976. She has a teaching appointment in the National University of Mexico (UNAM). She was nominated as Provost Distinguish International Scholar at Penn State University (2008) and has an appointment as Adjunct Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She was elected to serve at the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board for the periods 2000-2005 and 2005-2007. Dr. Medina Mora is a member of the World Health Organization Expert Committee on Addictions since 1986 and of the International Consortium of Psychiatric Epidemiology. She collaborates with WHO in the revision of the of ICD- 10 Mental and Behavioral Disorders as member of the International Advisory Group and as Chair of the Field Studies Coordination Group.

She received the National Award of Excellence in Research by a Senior Investigator from the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse, the WHO Director- General Special Recognition Award for accomplishments in the area of Tobacco Control and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Award of Excellence in International Leadership.
